Dear 10th form students,

For the English test next week, you should be able to:
Group I – reading comprehension
– understand the message of a text about the Media;
Group II – Vocabulary and Grammar
– recognise vocabulary related to the media, especially to newspapers;
– use the definite or indefinite articles (a,an,the, zero article);
– distinguish the use of the past perfect and past simple;
– distinguish and use the modal verbs;
– distinguish and use the different conditionals (type 1, 2 and 3);

As promised, here are the objectives for the test this week.

So, for this English test you should e able to:

I – Reading comprehension:

  • read a text and understand its message by answering some questions;

II – Language Awareness:
A. Vocabulary skills:

  • identify and distinguish the different Healthy and Unhealthy habits;

B. Grammar:

  • distinguish the use of the Conditionals – 1st and 2nd;
  • distinguish the regular and irregular verbs (past simple and past participle);
  • use the present perfect (affirmative, negative and interrogative) .

III. Writing:

  • write a small text using correction on the topic “Healthy Teenagers”;

This should be it!

Do the “Preparation for the Test Worksheet” in order to find out about your difficulties and weak points and then do some more exercises and study more.

For this English test you should be able to:

Group I – Listen to two texts and understand their message;

Group II – Read a text about Consumerism and understand its message by answering some questions about it (types of exercises: matching, multiple choice, filling in gaps, True/False – find evidence, completing sentences…);

Group III – identify and distinguish vocabulary related to consumerism, advertising and consumers’s rights; distinguish the quantifiers; use the double comparative; distinguish the use of the gerund and/or the “to” infinitive; form words; join sentences using the conjunctions of purpose and time.

Group IV – Write a small text about the topic of the module.

As promised, here is a worksheet that you should solve in order to prepare the test for the 7th Module – Young People and Consumerism – next Friday, 18th November.

Pay attention to the fact that there are some exercises that will be the same in the test.

  • Identify the countries, capital cities and respective nationalities;
  • Identify the types of shops and the products you can buy there;
  • Use the comparative of adjectives;
  • Use the past simple of the regular and irregular verbs (affirmative, negative and interrogative forms);
  • Write a small text about one of your last trips.
