As promised, here are the objectives for the test this week.

So, for this English test you should e able to:

I – Reading comprehension:

  • read a text and understand its message by answering some questions;

II – Language Awareness:
A. Vocabulary skills:

  • identify and distinguish the different types of food;

B. Grammar:

  • distinguish the use of the Future – Be going to and Will;
  • distinguish the Countable and uncountable nouns;
  • use the quantifiers.
  • use the degrees of the adjectives (comparative/superlative).

This should be it!

Do the “Preparation for the Test Worksheet” in order to find out about your difficulties and weak points and then do some more exercises and study more.

We have been talking about the future and the way we can express it with WILL or BE GOING TO.

Therefore, here is the explanation:

  • Ā GOING TO:

– when you are sure about what is going to happen (quando se tem certeza do que vai acontecer), a decision made (uma decisĆ£o jĆ” tomada).

SituationĀ 1

–Ā What color are you going to paint your kitchen?Ā (De que cor vais pintar a tua cozinha?)

–Ā IĀ“m going to paint it white. (Vou pintĆ”-la de branco.)

SituationĀ 2

–Ā What are you going to do after class tonight?Ā (O que vais fazer apĆ³s a aula hoje Ć  noite?)

–Ā IĀ“m going to stop by at my uncleĀ“s house to pick up some books.Ā (Vou passar em casa do meu tio para ir buscar alguns livros.)

– to make predictions about what’s going to happen (para se fazer previsƵes sobre o que vai acontecer).

I think the concert is going to be good.Ā (Acho que o show vai ser bom.)

I think itĀ“s going to rain.Ā (Acho que vai chover.)

  • WILL:

– with expressions like (com expressƵes como)Ā ā€œI THINKā€, ā€œMAYBEā€, ā€œIĀ“M SUREā€.

I think youĀ“ll do well on the test.Ā (Acho que a prova te vai correr bem.)

Maybe IĀ“ll go to the movies tonight.Ā (Talvez eu vĆ” ao cinema hoje Ć  noite.)

IĀ“m sure everything will be all right.Ā (Tenho certeza de que tudo ficarĆ” bem.)

– to offer help to do something (para se oferecer a fazer algo).

The phoneĀ“s ringing!Ā (O telefone estĆ” a tocar.)Ā DonĀ“t worry, IĀ“ll get it.Ā (NĆ£o se preocupe, eu atendo.)

– decisions made at the time of speaking (quando se resolve fazer algo na hora da fala).

–Ā Sir, will you have red wine or white wine?Ā (O senhor vai tomar vinho tinto ou branco?)

– Mmm, IĀ“ll have red wine.Ā (Mmm, aceito o vinho tinto.)
